Gurbhajan Gill

Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, born on May 2, 1953, in Basant Kot, Gurdaspur, is a prominent figure in Punjabi literature and culture. Raised in a family that valued education, he was supported by his siblings in his pursuit of knowledge and cultural enrichment.

His education began at the village school and continued at Sri Bawa Lal High School, Dhyanpur. He graduated from GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana, in 1974, and later secured second place in his MA Punjabi from Punjab University, Chandigarh, in 1976.

Prof. Gill is a multifaceted personality—a poet, literary commentator, editor, and cultural organizer. He has made significant contributions to the Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana, serving as president from 2010 to 2014 and now as a lifetime executive member. He is also a founder of the Prof. Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation, where he was General Secretary from 1978 to 2014.

His academic career includes teaching positions at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, and Lajpat Rai Memorial College, Jagraon. He later served as Senior Editor at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and contributed to Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, post-retirement.

Prof. Gill’s literary work includes several poetry and ghazal collections, such as "Har Dukhda Pind Mera Hai" and "Agan Katha." He has also edited over 50 scientific books and collaborated with renowned Punjabi folk artists. 

In recognition of his contributions, he has received numerous awards, including the Shiromani Punjabi Poet Award (2014) and the Guru Nanak Samman (2019). Prof. Gill resides in Ludhiana, continuing his lifelong dedication to Punjabi literature and culture.
